Damai Psychology
Personalized support to help you feel understood and grow
Damai is a Malay word that means peace, calm, or tranquility, but its meaning goes beyond the absence of conflict. It conveys a sense of inner harmony, emotional balance, and a peaceful coexistence with others and the surrounding environment. Damai can describe a quiet place, a serene state of mind, or harmonious relationships rooted in mutual respect and understanding. The word reflects an ideal way of living—one that values gentleness, tolerance, and unity, where peace is felt both within oneself and shared collectively with the community..
About our psychologist
Brian is a registered clinical psychologist who works mainly with adults experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns, including low mood, anxiety, neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism and ADHD, grief, trauma, stress, and relationship difficulties. He received both his undergraduate and master’s level training in psychology in Malaysia, and brings this foundation into his thoughtful, culturally sensitive work with clients from diverse backgrounds.
Although Brian primarily uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), he integrates techniques from other evidence-based approaches to suit each client’s needs. Brian takes a person-centred and collaborative approach to therapy, supporting clients as they navigate questions of identity, emotional challenges, and life transitions. He draws from a range of modalities, including CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based approaches. He also enjoys using metaphors and analogies to help clients connect more deeply with their inner experiences and make complex or abstract ideas easier to relate to.He has supported individuals from late childhood through late adulthood, and works with clients across a wide range of life experiences.
In his work as a therapist, Brian aims to create a safe and welcoming space where clients feel comfortable sharing their stories and making sense of their experiences. He believes that life can feel heavy at times, and that none of us are meant to carry everything on our own. Therapy is a collaborative process for Brian—one where therapist and client work together to develop coping strategies, deepen understanding, and find ways forward that feel manageable and meaningful. His intention is to offer a space grounded in compassion, mutual learning, and radical acceptance.
Outside the therapy room, Brian enjoys playing soccer, reading, and exploring new spots around town. He is fluent in both English and Mandarin.
